Scottish Folds date back to 1961 when a shepherd by the name of William Ross spotted the first known Scottish Fold cat at a farm near Coupar Angus in the Tayside Region of Scotland, Northwest of Dundee.

Reknowned for their unusual ears that "Fold" forward unlike "normal" cats whose ears are straight up. Short hair Folds retain the Scottish Fold name where long hair Folds are called Highland Folds.

Folds do come with "normal" ears, these are called Straights. Most cat associations give these cats a British pedigree.

The Folds with the tighter folded ears are the most prized for showing.
